What is a HEIF file, and is it different from HEIC?+
HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) is the underlying container specification. HEIC is Apple's specific implementation of HEIF using HEVC compression. In practice the terms are used interchangeably, and this tool accepts both .heic and .heif files.
Why won't my HEIC photos open on Windows?+
Windows does not include native HEIC decoding by default; older versions of Windows and many third-party apps only support JPG and PNG. Converting to JPG resolves this instantly without installing a codec pack.

HEIC re-encoding at the default 80% setting produces files roughly half the size of the original JPG with no visible quality loss for typical photos. Highly detailed images like text screenshots may show more visible compression artifacts at lower settings.
What is the maximum file size and batch size?+
Each file can be up to 30MB, and up to 20 files can be converted in a single batch.
Do you store or share my photos?+
No. Uploaded files exist only in server memory for the duration of the conversion request and are discarded immediately after. They are not written to disk, logged, or shared with third parties. See the

Is EXIF metadata preserved during conversion?+
Orientation is preserved so images display right-side up. Other metadata such as GPS location and camera details may not carry over depending on the conversion path — treat converted files as stripped of most original metadata.
